Being Prepare for School
School begins promptly at 8:50 am and we don’t have a minute to spare, so please try to say your goodbyes at the door. Allowing your child to come in and prepare for the day not only promotes independence but helps set a tone for the day.
Our primary means of communication will be the yellow take home folder. On the left side will be checked work that can be LEFT at home and on the right will be the new homework that should be brought RIGHT back. Parental guidance is appreciated but homework should be a true reflection of your child’s effort. Along with homework, any notes, newsletters, etc will also be sent home in this folder. It will be placed using the same guidelines - the things that can be left at home will be on the left and papers that should be returned will be on the right. Please check and empty the folder every night. It should come back with only homework and completed forms that either the school or I are requesting.
In the folder, you will also find plastic sleeves that house numerous homework helping tools for students and a communication calendar. Students will use the calendar to note their "color" for the day. More information on this in the behavior section. We will use the calendar for short messages to one another, as a place to note reminders, or to request conferences. Please be sure to initial it nightly so I know you saw it and I will do the same each morning. You can also always reach me via email – I check it at least once a day.

Lunch and Snack Procedures
Please place your child’s lunch money in a sealed envelope with your child’s name, lunch number, and amount of money written on the outside. If you are sending in a check your child’s lunch number must be written on the memo line. We will have a time for a snack each day. Students are responsible for bringing in their own snack. Please send in snack in a brown bag with the student's name written on it. Please try to chose snacks that a quick and healthy - not messy and complicated.
Birthdays
You may send in a small treat on your child’s birthday. Please be sure to have enough for a class of 25. They will be distributed during snack time and there will be no birthday celebrations during instructional time. As for students with summer birthdays, we will celebrate their half birthdays. I will send you a note reminding you of the date of their half birthday a week in advance. Finally, when sending in party invitations please invite every student or find an alternate way of distributing your invitations.
Rules, Consequences, and Behavior Chart
Our
classroom rules are the same as the rest of the school. They are simple and are
created as umbrella statements to encompass many types of
behavior. They are:
1. Be Responsible
2. Be Respectful
3. Be Safe
4. Be Ready to Learn
This year I will be utilizing ClassDojo. Students receive positive points for expected behaviors and negative points for unexpected behaviors. A note will go home during the first week of school to explain Dojo more and show you how you access your child’s account from home. The number of points a student recieves or loses will coinside with our color system. It is as follows:
Pink: +9 points - outstanding model behavior, going way above and beyond
Purple: +6 points - great behavior, going above and beyond expectations
Blue: +3 points - meeting expectations and setting a good example
Green: On task and ready to learn
Yellow: - 3Off task, time to think.
Orange: - 6 Needed several reminders for unacceptable behavior, teacher choice
Red: - 9 Student continues misbehavior, parent and administrative contact
Along with positive points, there are many ways I promote positive behavior. They are:
As a class: Students earn a letter each time they demonstrate positive whole group behavior or receive a compliment from another adult. Once the letters spell the word POPCORN - we will have a movie and popcorn celebration.
As a table: Tables can earn points for cleanliness, cooperation, collaboration, or positive behavior. The group with the most table points at the end of the month will join me for lunch.
As an individual: Dojo Points/Raffle tickets, Student of the month, PEEP awards, and Star of the Week
